Duvall, J. Scott, and J. Daniel Hays. Living God’s Word: Discovering Our Place in the Great Story of Scripture, 2nd ed. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2021.

Living God's Word presents the Bible as God's Great Story to help people understand the big picture. It provides a chapter discussion of every major part of the biblical story, including a section called “making connections” to show how this part fits into the whole. Each chapter ends with helpful discussion questions and resources for further study. The book concludes with a summary of the whole story and how it fits together theologically. Living God's Word offers a companion student workbook and DVD video lectures. It is suitable for an introductory college text or a Sunday school elective. [View on Amazon.]

Pentecost, J. Dwight. Thy Kingdom Come: Tracing God’s Kingdom Program and Covenant Promises Throughout History. Grand Rapids: Kregel Publications, 1995.

Pentecost built this book on 30 years of scholarly research and teaching. He states, “The great theme of God’s kingdom program can be found throughout the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It is a theme that unifies all of Scripture.” He sees God’s kingdom program as inseparably linked with His covenants. In this book, Pentecost carefully defines key aspects of the kingdom and then traces it through Scripture from eternity past to eternity future. Each chapter has a very helpful summary section at the end. [View on Amazon.]

Lloyd-Jones, Sally. The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name. Zonderkidz. Grand Rapids. 2007.

The Jesus Storybook Bible is a fully-illustrated children’s book that tells Bible stories from a big picture viewpoint. As the subtitle states, “Every Story Whispers His Name.” Lloyd-Jones does a nice job of showing the connections across the Scriptures, tying individual stories to the grand story. She says, “All the stories are telling one Big Story. The Story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them.” Highly recommended for children’s bedtime reading. [View on Amazon.]
